Robotic Cholecystectomy is a surgery in which the surgeon uses the robot to remove the gallbladder. The surgeon remains in full control of the robot technology.  Similar to laparoscopic approach, this surgery uses small incisions.

A surgeon who is well trained and experienced in the use of robotic surgery makes robotic cholecystectomy a very safe option.  Intuitive Surgical, manufacturer of the robot, has a very strict training process and remains very involved with the use of the technology.  This helps to ensure that robotic surgery is safe.

Robotic cholecystectomy is done under general anesthesia in a regular operating room.  Today, this operation is done on an outpatient basis.  It generally takes about an hour to do the actual surgery.

Recover time of robotic cholecystectomy depends upon the patient but frequently is only two to four days at home.  Patients often do not require any narcotic pain medication.  Long term, people can eat a normal diet after removal of the gallbladder.
